Anybody heard about this weird word Sengaltheri?? May be not.... So let me tell you something interesting about this Sengaltheri. The word Sengaltheri is nothing but a name of the hill station which has been kept hidden forever. This beautiful forst is located near the village named Kalakad in Tirunelveli,Tamilnadu . This place was kept hidden because of some un-proved believes. The people here believes that the place Sengaltheri contains Diamonds hidden inside in it (Funny isn't it :p)... But later on the false believes ridden away as people started enjoying this place as a nature's beauty.

Although there were lots of rumors about this awesome tourist place, but till now this has not been proved. Because of this reason Government of Tamilnadu always kept this as secret to protect this place from the people who believes in this rumors so that they won't cause harm to the wild life and the living things those belongs to this forest. And won't allow permission to visitors also... That's why this place hasn't become popular yet. I am telling this information just to get rid of such believes from the people's heart and to make this place famous.....

  5. I am from Kalakad.

Though the forest is big, when I was a kid during 1960s, we had no restrictions to go anywhere, though we could not, as animals had the same freedom as we had!

After lion tailed monkeys were located here for the first time, after 1970s a lot of restrictions have been put in place as the "WESTERN culture(!)" told us to save the monkeys than serving/saving the people!

Now we can not go there. Need special permissions, difficult to get. Kalakad has no lodging rooms. Small hotels are there, but a city dweller may not like to eat there!

Forest houses seen in the picture are good, but accommodation permission etc really difficult
